It appears that the State Ports Authority has picked the wrong time to build a port in Southport and their look at the jobs it will create are vastly overblown.

Re the Container Port, I believe this development will create serious problems related to public safety, traffic congestion, and provision of public services, and more importantly, create substantial and irreversible adverse environmental impacts Addressed below are four related matters that are important but do not seem to get as much attention as some others. They are: validity of the container port business model; record of environmentally sensitive container port development in other areas; increased threat of terrorist activity; and alternative use of the land should the port development not proceed

I am not sure the port can be stopped so we should be looking at what can be done to minimize the impact.  I offer the followiing suggestions to our state, county, and city leaders.
