Girl Scouts are caving, rappelling, and exploring science, technology, and career fields from aerospace to zoology. Help them discover the expanding program they are clamoring for.

Whether in technology or the arts, sports or medicine, business or government, Girl Scouts needs your help to provide opportunities for girls to learn and grow. No matter what your experience, your age, or the amount of time you have to give, there is a place for you.
Small business survival in downturn

Douglas Mieden

Steps to insure small business survival in a down economy require constant monitoring of business operations and current accurate financial data.

Cash is king! Conserve cash by:
¢	Minimize accounts receivable and be persistent in collection efforts
 ¢	Minimize inventory
¢	Negotiate longer payment terms with vendors
¢	Cut overhead without damaging the long term health of the business
¢	Delay additions to equipment, staff, etc.
¢	Lease instead of buying any equipment
¢	Establish working capital lines of credit before they are needed

Employees - your most valuable asset:
¢	Do not eliminate any proven employees if possible
¢	Consider a temporary reduction in work hours
¢	Accept marginal business to retain staff and cover overhead

Marketing - don't stop!
 ¢	Network
 ¢	Referral programs
¢	Employ frequent sales & offers
¢	Avoid large long term media obligations
¢	Advertise with a rifle approach - not shotgun
¢	Test approaches & measure results

Ocean Isle Palms hosted a successful Anniversary Celebration

Amanda Marks

Ocean Isle Palms is a new, private beach club community just one mile from Ocean Isle Beach, NC. On Saturday, May 3, 2008, they hosted an Anniversary Celebration that brought in families from all over the country who were interested in touring the community and previewing their newest neighborhood. Everyone enjoyed choosing their perfect homesite, touring the two new feature homes, reviewing floor plans, and learning about the building process from Vice President of Mark Saunders Luxury Homes, Dana South. The day was complete with island-style cuisine, live reggae music provided by JAH Creation of Wilmington, NC, helicopter tours, and boat rides on the Intracoastal Waterway.
